Empowering Parents @ Work – 1:1 coaching program
Don’t let a career break hold you back.
Get expert support to take control of your career and successfully navigate key transition points from pre-parental leave through to your return to work and beyond. Be empowered to continue growing your career and redefine what’s possible when it comes to balancing family and work.
How does the program work?
Empowering Parents @ Work is a 5 session career coaching program for new and expectant parents to take control and successfully navigate key transition points from pre-parental leave through to return to work, so that you can continue growing your career and redefine what’s possible when it comes to balancing family and work.
What topics will be covered?
The program creates a supportive bridge back to the workplace, and empowers parents to take control of their careers through action-oriented, individually tailored one-on-one coaching to successfully navigate four key transitional phases.
PLAN for leave:
You’ll develop a parental leave plan that you can share and discuss with your partner and employer (as relevant) so that you’re well-prepared to hand over your work when you leave, keep in touch while you’re away, and return to work in a role that fits with your career and lifestyle goals. This plan will cover things such as:
- What will happen with your role whilst you’re away (including preparing for any handover),
- How you’ll stay up-to-date with changes in your workplace, industry and profession (including harnessing ‘keeping in touch’ days),
- Communicating your return-to-work and future career goals to your manager (and any possible leave extensions or adjustments you may make),
- Building support networks at work and at home as you transition into parenthood (including childcare arrangements, and, if relevant, how you will share the load with your partner).
PREPARE to return:
You’ll develop a return-to-work plan that you can share and discuss with your partner and employer (as relevant) so that you’re well-prepared to transition and adjust to the role of working parent, manage the demands of work and family whilst taking care of yourself, and overcome any challenges or concerns you have about returning to work. This plan will cover things such as:
- What your ideal combination of work and family looks like, including childcare arrangements,
- What discussions you’ll have with your manager to confirm or renegotiate your return-to-work,
- How you’ll develop strategies to rebuild self-confidence and craft a fulfilling and realistic self-care routine so you don’t burn out,
- How your role aligns with your career goals and objectives, and if there are any challenges or concerns you have about returning to work.
PACE your re-entry:
You’ll reflect on your return to work and identify what’s worked well and what hasn’t so that you can make adjustments and obtain additional support where required, effectively communicate to others about how you’re progressing, and uncover ways to extract greater efficiency from your day. We’ll cover things such as:
- What challenges are arising at both home and work and what you can do to adjust and overcome these,
- Setting expectations with your partner, manager, and colleagues (as relevant) regarding a readjustment period and/or changes to your routine,
- Communicating regularly with your partner and manager (as relevant) about your progress and where you may need any extra support,
- Creating a strategy to establish and maintain workplace visibility, whilst sustainably managing the combined demands of both home and work.
POSITION for growth:
You’ll reassess and set your future career and lifestyle goals so that you can get clarity about the timing and milestones around your career progression and growth, understand where you have any skill or knowledge gaps, and identify workplace sponsors or mentors who can support, motivate, and help you to achieve your goals. We’ll cover things such as:
- What your future career and lifestyle goals are, and what may or may not have changed since returning to work,
- Where you may have any skill or knowledge gaps between your current and desired next role,
- What you could add to your learning and development plan to close any gaps you’ve identified,
- How to develop a supportive network of workplace sponsors/mentors to help you maintain motivation and progress towards achieving your career goals.
